Kid thing

Today I brought home a used kid thing, put it together, cut it up some, then reinforced it elsewhere. Hopefully it will be a fun play spot through the cold months.

Deck, part 3

The deck is done except for sealing it. Need to figured out when that should be done.

Touched by fire

This maple tree outside work is going to extremes for its fall color display.

Front deck part 2

I got new stairs attached to the deck and covered with treads.

Front deck part 1

On Wednesday I tore the front deck off the house. The goal is to replace it soon.

The pictures make the old deck look sorta quaint and pleasant, but it was actually twisted, splintery and nasty. Don’t let it fool you with its optical sob story. (:

Scary pumpkin spotting

Saw this on the highway today. Probably a 500+ lb pumpkin. Sucker wasn’t even strapped down and it rocked with every bump. A good pothole and it could have killed someone.

All access

Not every snappy workout quote should go on every size shirt. This one is an XL. Behind it is a 3XL.

I walked past this, but didn’t even visit it

Because I wanted fresh crab instead. (:

Oh man, it’s dusty around here.

I got an itch to move away from Facebook a bit and go back to blogging. It actually came from listening to a Freakonomics interview with Wired Magazine founder Kevin Kelly ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Kelly_%28editor%29 ) It’s a good interview, you should listen. Anyway, I’m going to see what I can do to dust this place off and get back to blogging, even if no one is watching.

This is a motivating image. It's a great combination of 70's idealism and sci-fi-esque bright-eyed futurism

video files played correctly, every time

Melissa and I have been watching rips I made of an anime series from DVD. I ripped it with english/japanese audio and english subs. We’re watching it with the Japanese audio and the English subs. Also, I find the openers to anime are generally really annoying. They’re just not my thing. So I like to skip them after the first few times. Here’s the command line to play the show without having to manually set it all up every time:

vlc –audio-track=1 –sub-track=1 –start-time=81 DeathNote_ep01.mkv

The audio and subtitle tracks are numbered from zero. On this show, English is zero, Japanese is one for the audio. English translations of signs, labels, etc is subtitle track zero. Full English subs is subtitle track one. Lastly, the show starts and 1m 21s into each file, so I tell vlc to start at 81 seconds in.
