Bible in a year

I’ve tried a couple times to do a complete, cover-to-cover read through the Bible. I’ve never succeeded. This time, I’ve signed up for daily emails through They offer many different translations, plaintext or html emails, and a few different ways to read through. The selling point for me is that my reading “assignment” is emailed to me each day. Since I’m a huge email junky, chances are it will always get read, everyday.

I’ll let you know how it’s going in a while.

Went to the dentist today for a tooth cleaning. The embarrassing part of this is that I had not been to the dentist in 6-7 years. Basically, since the last time my mother scheduled an appointment for me. What a slacker. Between moving around, changing jobs and tight money situations, I’ve always been able to push it into the back of my mind.

Finally took care of it though. And no cavities! I’m very thankful for that. It’s a blessing not to have hurt what teeth I have left through neglect. Apparently I need to floss more, as some of my gums are inflamed, but I can do that.

ze puppy!

This is the newest addition to the family. He’s a 15 week old standard poodle with no name. The current name candidate is Rook. Many, many names have been considered, but Melissa is looking for just the right name. (:

Fear and loathing

for i in $(find -name *.xml); do (cat $i | (echo $i; grep -6 \”no)); (cat $i | (grep -6 \”error));done

Why am I parsing xml with a shell script? Because it has to be done *right now*, apparently, without time to produce a more elegant xml-based solution. So instead I treat it like the text that it is, and digest it into a tractable form. Such is the life of 300 megabyte piles of output logs. Regardless, I’m proud to have generated the above.
