syncopation == evil ?

So I’m back from my weekend out. I went up to Detroit-city for the weekend to be with Melissa. It was quite a nice visit. My legs are pretty tired from all the walking/etc we did, but it’s good to finally get some excercise. Overall, it was a wonderfully relaxing weekend. I got over 10 hours of sleep each night.

We ended up watching Shallow Hal Saturday night, due in no small part to the fact that we had a raincheck for a free rental. I would recommend watching it, if you’re in the mood for a movie to talk to someone during. It was good for that. I think if I had gone into it wanting to see a good movie, I would have been sorely disapointed. As it was though, Mel and I enjoyed it a lot. We ended up talking over everything from bulemia (sp?) in models to freaky lighting in the movie to who knows what. It was a conversation piece much more than it was a movie.

I left Detroit a tad earlier than is normal for me so that I could go to Josh’s birthday party in Indy. That’s a good haul from Detroit, probably 350 miles. But I made it in pretty good time. Thing is, for some reason I was apparently not supposed to go. When I got close, I could not get ahold of anyone for the directions I needed for the last few miles. I tried calling Jerry, but after letting it ring out a few times, I surmised (correctly it turns out) that he left his cell phone in his car. I also tried Elizabeth’s phone, to no avail. All this time I was driving around looking for a pay phone with a phone book in it. Seems it isn’t fashionable anymore to have a local phone book in the phone booth. I guess that forces people to use the directory information service. Which I did. But the only Strodtbeck with a listed number was apparently the wrong one. (don’t worry, I left Josh a message on H. Strodtbeck’s machine anyway. 🙂

So all that took me about 30-40 minutes. Let me tell you, I was pretty pissed. I drove all that way for nothing! I realized that I was starved though (and shaking a lot to boot) so I went to Fuzoli’s for some dinner. While I was eating, I came to my senses and realized that it was pretty easy to forget your cell phone and that there was no reason to be mad. The thought actually crossed my mind, “What would Daniel do in this situation?”. That made me laugh a little at myself and calmed me down more. I tried Jerry’s cell again, to no avail, so I just headed home.

All in all, it wasn’t that bad. I left Detroit around 12:30 and got home around 8:30. So it only added 2.5 hours or so to the trip. It was worth it for the character building, right? (:

I finally got ahold of Jerry when I got home, so I was able to wish Josh a happy birthday. Sounds like he had a good party, so life is good. If anyone knows where I can buy a nice beer stein, let me know. I owe him a birtday present. (:

I’m gonna go play some video games before bed. I deserve that, right?
