request for criticism

Hey y’all. If any of you feel like criticising a blog layout/skin, I’ve been working on a blog for Melissa lately. I’m searching for a better background image, since the lion isn’t exactly what mel would like.

Any thoughts on things I could do in order to make it a better layout?

  1. The background image just has to go. It’s far too difficult to read some of the text.

The layout itself looks fine though, nothing too complex.

  2. I don’t know, there isn’t too much you can do to the standard layout without getting cluttered. Some people have a sidebar on both sides of the article. Other use a smidgen of Javascript and CSS to instantly show the “Read more…” content when the link is clicked. As far as the background is concerned, you might have to switch to IE-specific filters to get it to work in that browser, because I’ve never gotten the dual-background-image trick to work in IE. Not a problem if you don’t care about IE. In addition to crystallize or whatver plugin you used, I’d drop a dark or light 50% transparent layer on top of the commentbox image so that the text color stands out more.

  3. Fun with CSS is cool and all, but since it is currently inconsistent (some things crystalized, others not, and yes, I’m viewing it with firefox) it ends up being very distracting.

  4. Oh, I don’t know… I think it could be improved by *putting it in English*!! 😉

  5. I agree that the image needs to be changed. I’m on the prowl for a replacement, but that will arrive when it arrives. On my screen, to my eyes, it is fairly readable, but this is what I was looking for. Apparently it isn’t readable for some. Thank-you. (:
