An interesting perspective…..

If you consider that there have been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq Theater of operations during the last 22 months, and a total of 2112 deaths, that gives a monthly firearms death rate of 60 per 100,000 for our troops.

The rate in Washington DC is 80.6 per 100,000. That means that you are about 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our nation’s capital, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington DC

  1. Would be interesting if it were true, but unfortunately it’s bullpoop. The figure quoted for Washington D.C. is only about twice the actual death rate…FOR A YEAR. Month, meet year…he’s 12 times bigger than you.

  2. It seems that mac is right, the stats show that the number quoted for DC is for a year, not for a month. So the comparison is off by an order of magnitude.

  3. I’m afraid if you included civilian casualties in the Iraq death rate then the numbers would make even less of a case, even with the inflated DC numbers.

  4. Now if you want to take a real sick perspective in all this…

    Whats the overall effectiveness of the military in Iraq versus the police in DC?

    Well how many murderers get away with their crimes… How many in Iraq get away? (we can count suicide bombers as having been “caught”)

  5. People are blinded by political bias,or their lack of critical thinking and math skills.

    Re: Your article about the deaths is misleading in its apple to oranges comparison.

    The FLAW is comparing D.C. deaths (80.6) for 22-months to U.S. troop deaths (60) for 1-MONTH.

    The CORRECT statement is:

    There were 80.6 D.C. deaths versus 1,320 U.S. troop deaths per 100,000 over 22-months.
    Conclusion: Iraq is more dangerous than D.C.

    Verify deaths per 100,000 per 22-months as follows:

    D.C. = (480/545,530 x 100,000 x 22 /24) = 80.6
    Troops = (2,112/160,000 x 100,000) = 1,320.

    Note: The 22/24 converts the 24 months of data to 22 months.

    Source: 1999 and 2000 D.C. crime statistics: 480 total murders; average D.C. population of 545,530.

    Representative Doolitte of California and “Life on the Right” and other have posted the same fallacious “factoid” their internet sites.
